This engaging and well-rounded 1st-grade homeschool curriculum is designed to help your child grow in confidence and curiosity across all core subjects. Through a blend of hands-on activities, creative projects, and guided lessons, your child will strengthen their reading, writing, and math skills while also exploring the world around them through science, social studies, and the arts.

Whether you’re just starting your homeschool journey or continuing from kindergarten, this curriculum provides a joyful and structured foundation for a successful year of 1st-grade learning.

Each week, you’ll enjoy fun, hands-on activities that help your child:

  1. Master advanced phonics, blends, and digraphs for stronger reading fluency.
  2. Read short stories and early chapter books with growing comprehension.
  3. Practice writing complete sentences, use correct punctuation, and begin crafting short paragraphs and creative stories.
  4. Build math skills with addition and subtraction up to 50, learn place value, solve word problems, and tell time to the hour and half-hour.
  5. Explore science topics like life cycles, weather, and ecosystems through interactive lessons and simple experiments.
  6. Discover communities, maps, and historical figures to gain insight into their significance in the world.
  7. Express creativity with art, music, and drama through fun and engaging activities.
  8. Develop fine and gross motor skills through purposeful play, crafts, and movement.

This checklist will help you determine if your child is ready to begin a homeschool kindergarten program. Every child develops at their own pace, so use this as a flexible guide to see where your child shines and where they may need a little more support. It’s okay if they’re still developing in some areas—this list is meant to guide, not pressure.

📚 Reading & Language Skills

  1. Recognizes all uppercase and lowercase letters
  2. Knows basic letter sounds and common blends (e.g., “ch,” “sh”)
  3. Reads simple CVC words and familiar sight words
  4. Understands the basic structure of a story (beginning, middle, end)
  5. Can listen to a story and answer simple comprehension questions
  6. Write their first and last name
  7. Can write short, simple sentences

Math Readiness

  1. Counts aloud to 100
  2. Recognizes numbers 1–50
  3. Understands basic addition and subtraction concepts
  4. Can identify and draw basic shapes
  5. Understands simple patterns (AB, AAB, ABC)

✍️ Fine Motor Skills

  1. Holds a pencil or crayon with control
  2. Can trace and copy letters and numbers
  3. Cuts along straight and curved lines with scissors
  4. Can glue, color inside the lines, and complete basic crafts
  5. Can use everyday tools (zippers, buttons, etc.) with independence

🧠 Cognitive & Learning Behaviors

  1. Follows multi-step directions
  2. Pays attention to a task for at least 10–15 minutes
